Invitational Program

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for trusting and supporting our OTR Invitational program this year.

We have grown in numbers over the last 2 years and now have more than 60 juniors training with us, 7 days a week.

We have seen some great improvements throughout the year. More of our juniors are competing in local HKTA-run tournaments, we are getting better results and the overall level of commitment has risen dramatically.

  • Almost all of our juniors were selected to their respective club teams for Prince Cup.
  • 60% of all Invitational C kids entered the HK National’s.
  • 70% of all Invitational A/B kids entered the HK National’s.
  • Kate Zhang qualified for the U14 National’s, beating 3 NTS players on her way. She also won several Junior series doubles titles.
  • Christian Kwok was directly into the main draw and won his first round.
  • Matthew Jeong qualified for the U10 main draw of the National’s and made quarter finals.
  • Arnold Cheng and Daniel Xiong making main draw of National’s U12 doubles.
  • Vikram and Hursh Singh both played their first National’s tournament and won a few rounds each. Vikram made it to the final round of Qaulifying.
  • Vikram also won the U16 LRC title and Hursh was runner-up in the U10 LRC championships.
  • Arnold was runner-up in the U12 Jockey Club boy’s singles.
  • Noelle Wilbert – now ranked 25 U18 Girl’s in HK. Number 1 ranked junior for her age. Winner of HK National’s 2016 U12 Girl’s singles. Semi-finalist U14 Girl’s Junior Series.
  • Malhar Rajpal – now ranked 62 U18 Boy’s in HK. Number 3 ranked junior for his age. Semi-finalist HK National’s 2016 U12 boy’s singles & doubles. Winner of U12 Boy’s Junior Series.
With the limited number of tournaments on offer in HK, we created an Invitational ladder for our A and C players to boost the number of matches they could play. With over 150 supervised matches played throughout the year, here are the final results:

  • Invitational A final 4: Adam; Malhar; Vikram and Noelle.
  • Winner: Adam Chow; Runner-up Malhar Rajpal.
  • Invitational C final 4: Arnold, Daniel, Ben and Sebastian.
  • Winner: Arnold Cheng; Runner-up Daniel Xiong.

We have also run friendly matches against the HKTA and Team Philippines where our juniors did very well.

We have decided to run a camp/trial period leading into the new term and we will be inviting juniors who show the following qualities back into our program:

  • Positive attitude
  • Excellent body-language
  • Commitment
  • Athletic potential
  • Technical skills
  • Focus
  • Determination

The camp/trial period will last for 2 weeks and we encourage parents to come and watch or talk to coaches about the upcoming program for the next academic year.
